No matter what category of credit card you’re looking at, there are always going to be popular cards. When we talk about student credit cards, there are more than just a normal card that just allows you to get by with your purchases. In fact, most people think that when they are applying for their credit card, they are going to get a lousy deal and a high interest rate. They couldn’t be further from the truth. Today, I’m going to tell you what cards are popular and which ones are not.

I’ve been working with credit cards for a few years now and I’m able to see what students like when they are looking for a card. A lot of students like a card that will have good rates, a good reward program, and a card the benefits them when it comes to school. Take for instance, the MTVU card allows students to get points for having good grades! That’s right, all you need to do is go to school and send over your report card. Depending on your GPA, you can get points toward gift cards, etc. It really is a great deal.

In my opinion, the most popular student credit card is the point based cards. Most credit cards on the market that cater to college students allow you to receive some sort of reward. These rewards can vary from gas rewards to airline rewards. It all depends on what you do in your free time and where you think your points will benefit you the most.

A point based card is very similar to a cash back card but instead you’re going to get points back. The most common system is that you’ll get a point for every dollar you spend. From there, you can log into your account and check out the points based system website. You can get things like gift cards, electronics, and credit toward your bill, and more. Basically, you can get anything under the sun.

The next credit card that is runner up would be the gas based credit card. This card allows you to save on gas every time you fill up. Like the point based card, this card will take whatever you spent at the pump and knock a percentage off. So, if you get a card that saves you five percent per gallon, you’re going to save five percent per gallon. With the gas prices being so high today, this is a great way for college students to save; especially you drive a lot from the campus to home.

Even though a card may be popular, it doesn’t mean it’s going to fit your needs. Make sure you do your research and see what will fit your needs on a every day basis. As long as you pay your card off in full each month, you’ll be able to avoid those pesky fees. A credit card can do wonders if you do it right. If it’s not for you, then use cash!
