Learning to speak French can be useful in many applications. If you are lucky enough to learn French in school, then you may find throughout your life that you can use it for many different reasons. Learning this language can be helpful when trying to start a career or if you are looking to do some extensive traveling.

Imagine learning the language and actually being able to speak French in France and converse with the natives. As well, learning to speak this language could open up a whole new world of career opportunities.

There are also several other useful reasons to learn French in school. One of these reasons is actually, believe it or not, to improve your English skills. Around 40 to 50% of our English vocabulary actually comes from the language.

Studying it can help you to enhance your grammar skills. Increasing your proficiency in English can help you when you are taking the verbal part of tests like the ACT or the SAT.

Learning it can also help you with your creativity and can help you improve your memory skills. Studying the French vocabulary, grammar and having to learn how to conjugate a French verb will help develop memory skills. Learning a new language, such as French, can also help build self-esteem, as well as the development of self-discipline skills.

If you are an avid sports fan, then this may be enough to persuade you to learn French in school. It is one of the official languages to announce sporting events during the Olympic Games. Other sporting events, such as the Le Mans and the Monte Carlo, Canadian hockey and tennis tournaments, such as the French Open, are also announced in the language.

If you plan on someday traveling the world, then this is another excellent reason to learn it. French is spoken in so many countries that knowing this language can greatly increase your ability and chance of being able to communicate when in a non-English speaking country. Today, in over 40 countries, the language is either the first or second language.

While people have different reasons for taking a class to learn French in school, the skill is ultimately a useful one. Whether you are planning to travel around the world, looking to work for a French based company or perhaps just want to learn another language, the language definitely has its useful applications.

Before you choose another language, other than the courses offered in school, think of the uses for that language. You might find it useful to do an online search to discover all of the countries where French is spoken.
