An area rug can transform a room or 2 in your house by adding color, style and flair to your room. A well chosen area rug can do wonders for any home.

There are all sorts of area rugs that you can buy. There is a wide range of different ways to make area rugs. Many are handmade, though there are some beautiful machine made area rugs available too. And they are made from a wide range of different types of both natural and artificial fibres.

Here s a quick roundup of some of the more well known and loved area rugs.

Persian rugs are rugs made from what was known as Persia but is now known as Iran. They use techniques that go back thousands of years to make their rugs and they are high quality stunning rugs. Different areas in Iran have different techniques and this results in different styles of rug. So if you love Persian rugs learn more about the different styles.

Oriental rugs are generally rugs made in Asian countries like China and India, although they can also be made in Iran too. Oriental rugs look great and are very versatile, and can be used in many different locations and look good.

Moroccan rugs are obviously made in Morocco and are generally purchased there and brought home, though you can buy them here. They are highly colored and look great and wear well.

Cheaper area rugs are often made by machine to look like some of those rugs that I have told you about already. Nothing wrong with a machine made rug, but I always like a handmade area rug, but that s just me. There s something about the fact that people made it, rather than a machine.

And there are so many fibers around now that are used in rug making too.I like natural fibers like jute, sisal, sea grass, hemp and bamboo but these can be a little prone to wear while some of the artificial fibers are better wearing.

There s a lot to learn about area rugs, and decorating a home with area rugs, most beyond the scope of this article. But there s no doubt that a well placed area rug can do wonders for your home. It will make it look fresher and more colorful, and will brighten up any room. An area rug is great for a kids room, and there are so many different shapes and sized of area rugs that they can be used just about anywhere. I love runner rugs for halls and corridors.

So if you re looking to brighten up a room that may be looking a little tired or jaded consider a great area rug. You may have heard that area rugs are expensive to buy. In some places that may be true but there are a few ways to buy cheap area rugs that are cheap in price but not in quality. You just have to know where to look.
