If you’re new to the credit card game, you may not know as much as you want to and hopefully by the time you read this article, you will get a clear understanding on how your spending habits should work and what steps you should take in order to prevent falling into that hole we call, “debt”.

Society makes a credit card sound nasty and dangerous because more than half of Americans don’t know how to use them right. These are the same people that tell you to steer clear of these cards. What they don’t know is that if you use the cards properly, you can really take advantage of the rewards. A lot of the times, it’s like getting free money for nothing, it really does sound too good to be true but it really isn’t!

Pay off your bill in full – This is the golden rule when it comes to using credit cards for the first time. In order to avoid your pesky interest rate fees, it’s important that you pay off your bill in full each month. If you can accomplish this task, you can avoid paying any interest rates. So, if your rates are one percent of its ten thousand, you won’t have to worry if your card is being paid off. It’s as if you’re getting money loaned to you at no cost for thirty days.

Spend wisely – The first thing you’re going to want to teach yourself is to treat this card as if it’s cash in your hand. You’ll never want to spend more than you have in your bank account or what you earn. The easiest way to keep track of this is to simply log into your online account once in a while or keep a notepad on you and jot it down every time you make a purchase. This way, once the bill comes in the mail, you won’t be surprised by how much the bill actually is.

Be smart – When you have your credit card on hand, make sure know where it is at all times. The best place to generally carry it is in your wallet or purse. If your card gets stolen, you’re risking your credit and your time. Even though, you’re only responsible for the first fifty dollars, it’s always best to keep your eye on it and make sure you cancel right when you find out that your card is stolen.

These are just a few of the tips you should follow when it comes to spending smart for the first time. It’s important that you use your head. You’ll find out that common knowledge will take you a long way. Just remember that if you have a high credit limit, it doesn’t mean you have to go out and blow it, it’s not free money you have, it’s money you’re going to have to owe back, so if you don’t need it, don’t buy it, it’s that simple! Credit cards can really reward you in the long run, only if you use them with a smart approach.
