When you pull up to that pump and realize that you just don’t want to drive anymore, it can be really hard to go to work the next day and know that maybe half of your paycheck is going to go to the stupid gas companies. While the gas companies are happy, the average consumer is struggling day by day just to drive back and forth to work. Until we get some alternative fuel source that the majority of America uses, we are going to be stuck with gasoline. Instead of pulling up to the gas pump and paying full price next time, you may want to consider some alternatives.

Carpooling – Do you know of anyone at your place of work that lives nearby? If you do, maybe you can work out an arrangement where you can drive each other in every other day or week and cut back on half of the gas. Instead of taking two cars, you know can take one and save. If you don’t know of anyone at your work, you can always try the state funded carpool assistance programs. These programs will find people that are in need of a partner like you and the state will help assist you.

Public Transportation – No matter what city you live in, there probably is some type of public transportation. This can include the bus system, the subway, a train, and so many other alternatives. See where these routes usually head toward and see if you can benefit from them. Some people find themselves driving a few miles to a parking lot for a bus stop and it cuts back on nearly 70 of their gas, it really can save!

Walk or Bike – Do you live nearby grocery stores or any other type of store you frequent? If so, instead of driving that little distance, you can instead pull out the old bicycle or simply walk. Even though that store may be a mile away, if you walk there forty times, that’s already eighty miles. Do you see how quickly that can add up? Let’s not forget you’re also going to be getting exercise as well. It’s a win win situation!

Gas Credit Cards – If you don’t want to do the above at all, you can always drive the way you are and simply apply for a gas card. A gas card is nice because some cards allow you to save up to almost ten percent a gallon. As long as you pay your bill off in full each month, you’ll be able to reap the rewards one hundred percent. There are a lot of cards out there, make sure you do your research and find out which card will best suit your needs.

There are so many ways you can save on gas. From changing your driving habits to getting a different car, the list is endless. Just think of how you save with everything else in life. Now try and apply these same techniques to gas, it will work the same way.
