Out of all of the hundreds of different types and brands of lubricants available in the market today, silicone lubricant is probably your best option for any kind of action between the sheets. To really get a handle on why silicone lubricant is so much better than its water and oil based counterparts, you have to know the drawbacks of the others.

Lubricants with an oil base, for instance, can have an adverse effect on latex condoms and gloves used during sexual play. As you probably know, a broken condom can have many adverse effects on your life. One of which includes pregnancy. Another is contracting life threatening sexually transmitted diseases. Silicone lubricants, on the other hand, are totally safe for use with all kinds of protection. In fact, silicone lubricants actually reduce the likelihood that the condom will break, as it acts as a buffer between the condom and the skin.

Additionally, lubricants with an oil base can leave a thin film on the skin, which can irritate it and then cause small tears. These tiny lesions can then get infected, inflamed and painful. Silicone lubricants, on the other hand, leave no film on the skin and are easily washed off with just soap and water. Since they are hypoallergenic, silicone lubricants will not irritate the skin at all.

Water based lubricants are another option when it comes to sexual play, but again, they are still no match for silicone lubricants. This is because although water based lubes are safe for use with condoms and latex gloves, they do not last as long as silicone lubricant. In fact, the water based lubes tend to dry out during use, as the skin absorbs the water in them. As a result, what is left is a sticky, tacky mess. Sure, it can be rejuvenated with a little bit of water sprinkled on it, but who has time for that?

Silicone lubricants, however, do not get sticky or evaporate during use. The skin does not readily absorb silicone, so the slickness that you expect out of a decent sex lube lasts a really long time. In fact, you probably will not have to reapply silicone lubricant at all during your sexual encounter. Since a little bit of silicone lubricant will go a long way, you will find that a bottle of it will last a really, really long time. As an added bonus, it will not stain your sheets.
