Despite what the commercials on TV might be telling you, you do not have to spend a fortune on hair care products to have healthy hair. In fact, there are lots of little things that you can do every day to improve and maintain the overall health of your hair. Below are a few hair care tips and tricks that the professionals like to keep secret (after all, if everyone knew the secret to healthy hair, they would be out of jobs!). Try adding them to your hair care regimen, and watch your hair get shinier, stronger and more beautiful than before!

.) Always brush your hair before washing it. While it may sound counterintuitive, when you brush your hair before you wash it, you loosen up any caked on hair care products that would have otherwise remained glued to your scalp and hair. When you do this, you can wait longer periods of time between shampooing. Not everyone has tons of time to devote to shampooing their hair everyday, so this is really a great timesaver.

.) Make sure that you massage your scalp when you wash your hair. By adding this technique to your hair care routine, you increase the circulation to your scalp and promote healthier hair to grow from the root.

.) Shampoo only as often as you need to. Despite what your mother may have told you in the past, you do not need to shampoo your hair every single day. Instead, wash it only when it smells funky or when it looks greasy. A good hair care does not mean washing your hair as much as possible!

.) Never shampoo your hair without moisturizing it afterward. Conditioning your hair is arguably the most important part of any hair care regimen. Although you can save a few dollars and go with a cheaper shampoo, you should pony up the extra cash for a high quality conditioner.

.) Ditch any hairbrushes with plastic bristles. No good hair stylist has any hair care brushes with synthetic bristles. Always opt for brushes with natural bristles.

.) Try to avoid using heat as much as possible. From hair dryers to curling irons, heat damages your hair more than just about anything else. This also includes natural heat from the sun, since UV rays can really damage your hair over time.

.) Because your hair is only as healthy as you are, refrain from ingesting unhealthy things. Your diet can be just as important to maintaining healthy hair as it is to stay fit.
