If you’re anything like me and you love to take road trips and you tend to drive a lot, the gas prices are probably killing you as well seeing as I type this, the national average is well over three dollars. Even though it’s hard to fight the government and the oil companies when it comes to high gas prices, there are a few things you can do daily in order to help you save a few bucks when it comes to saving on gasoline.
If you’re doing research on saving gas, you probably already know by now that there aren’t any special coupons or other fancy ways to saving. In fact, I don’t even think those exist. Instead, you’re going to have to turn to your driving habits and you’re going to have to do a little tweaking. Once you get into the routine of tweaking your driving skills, you’ll be on the path to saving money in no time. Today, I’m going to explain a few things you can do in order to improve your gas mileage, which in turn will save you more money at the pump.
Drive slowly – By driving the speed limit, you can increase your MPG greatly. This is probably the simplest task to do. All you need to do is follow the speed limit. If you tend to have a lead foot, just think of all the money you’re saving when you’re going the speed limit.
Inflate your tires – I can’t stress this enough to people. You’ll never want to drive on tires without enough air pressure. This affects your mileage greatly. Every week, you’re going to want to check your tires by using a simple little gadget known as a tire gauge. Look at your tire and see what the recommended PSI is.
Stop running your car – If you find yourself running your car when you run into your house or a store, make sure you stop this habit right away. As your car idles, you’re not only burning gas but you’re also prone to theft. Carjackers love to take idling cars. Make sure you play it safe by shutting your car off, it doesn’t take long to re start your car, and it’s just the flip of a key.
Keep up with the tune ups – Make sure that you keep up with your oil changes and tune ups. If you’re not a vehicle whiz, just stop by one of those quick stop oil changes. Most places are more than helpful to show you what’s wrong. Remember, you don’t have to buy everything they recommend. In fact, I wouldn’t recommend it; I would check prices around other businesses as well.
Saving on gas is easy if you drive the right way. The tips mentioned above are just a few that help you save on gas. If you keep your car in shape, drive the speed limit, and you don’t drive a gas guzzler, your next gas bill shouldn’t be as high as the last.
